Black Pine Animal Sanctuary
In the late 1980’s Karen Hoag and her husband adopted a single llama from a neighbor who could no longer care for it, and agreed to raise the llama on their small farm. From that moment on, over the years the couple became known in the area as a place to surrender wild and exotic animals that people no longer could care for properly. There were multiple reasons why the animals were surrendered, which still exist to this day. The reasons for surrendering wild and exotic animals range from the animal size, temperament, care involved, and many times lack of resources or adequate space. Originally named PARC (Professional Animal Retirement Center) in 2001, the organization became a nonprofit 501(c) 3, and was then named Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. Due to the number of animals and need for more space, in 2006 the Noble County 4H Club leased the current location to BPAS, and this is now the forever home to over 60 species of animals, reptiles, and birds. Black Pine Animal Sanctuary is one of the only multi species sanctuaries in the Midwest. The sanctuary includes an Avian Building, Primate House, and Reptile House, which are all climate controlled through the winter cold months. In 2019, Black Pine Animal Sanctuary became accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, which assures the public that BPAS is a true sanctuary. Unlike many self-professed sanctuaries, and zoos, we do not buy, sell, breed or trade the animals at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. Animals who now live at the sanctuary, have been surrendered or confiscated by legal authorities and will remain at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, living peacefully and being well cared for, for the rest of their lives. The Twelve Months of Christmas came about in a strange way. In 2002, my husband, Randy and I went to Las Vegas. As we were going to the hotel, I noticed a panel truck with “Jones Christmas Shop” on it. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I looked their number up in the phone book and gave them a call. During a break in gaming, I took some time to visit their shop. And visit the shop I did! I spent 4 hours browsing and upon leaving the store I thanked the owners and told them how much I enjoyed seeing all of their decorations. They told me that if I liked their shop, I should go to Atlanta and visit Americas-Mart where buyers order Christmas merchandise for their stores. I made the trip to Atlanta and it was like dying and going to Heaven. While in the MeraVic Showroom, a rep got an order form out. I told her I wasn't going to order anything and that I was just looking. Apparently Lisa was an extremely good sales rep because I placed a substantial order for a non-existing business. And that is how The Twelve Months of Christmas came to be. With my passion for Christmas and decorating, and Randy's love of construction, we have built a thriving business that brings joy not only to us but to all who enter our Christmas Store. Dr. Swihart grew up in Wakarusa, Indiana and graduated from NorthWood High School. He went on to complete his Biology degree from Valparaiso University in 2006, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Swihart then received his doctorate from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2010. He has had specialized training in Invisalign and Implants and is member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. In order to provide the highest quality of dentistry to his patients, Dr. Swihart takes many hours of continuing education. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Holly, son Brayson, and daughter Bailey. He also loves reading, working out, and watching Florida Gators Football and IU Basketball. Concannon's Pastry Shop was established in 1959 by J. Michael and Wanda Concannon on Charles Street in downtown Muncie, Indiana. In 1978 we built a new facility at 620 N. Walnut Street and moved in. Since then -- thanks to a great response from customers like you -- we have remodeled and added square footage at least four times at that location. In 1978, Michael T. Concannon purchased the business from his parents. Concannon's is truly a rare family business, with the third generation now heavily involved. Marc Concannon is a trained baker and oversees all candy, popcorn and coffee production. We have diversified the bakery to include our gourmet popcorns, our house-roasted coffees and our own line of fine chocolates. In 2009 we opened our Bakery Café at 4801 W. Baker Lane on the north side of Muncie. Like our original shop, it has been enlarged due to customer demand as well. This shop showcases our full line of bakery products and is also home to our deli and coffee bar. We are so appreciate of our many long-time employees who make customer service a priority, and intensely grateful for the loyal customer following.
