The first step was to equip a well thought out design for their custom smokin’ wagon. The end result: A 30-foot enclosed trailer, with a 500 spk smoking bad boy with a 3-bay sink system and refrigeration. Very easy to see, it’s “all in” on this one. With the smokin’ wagon ready Squealers started their journey in the world of cooking outstanding barbeque. Competing and selling in more than 24 cities in 1999, Squealers got a real feel for what it takes to score high with the judges and win over the (now) loyal customers. Achieving over 65 awards at assorted National barbeque, World barbeque, and Ribfest events through the South, East, and Midwest, Squealers wanted to bring home all the expertise they had acquired. In 2013, a group of animal loving volunteers recognized there was a greater need than what our area was able to offer. They came together to form an all volunteer group, and Midwest Pet Refuge was formed. In 2014 MPR was incorporated, and by 2015 MPR was officially determined a tax exempt 501(c)3 non profit with a full board of directors. We rely on volunteers, fosters, supporters, and donors to operate. As a completely volunteer run organization with no large scale facility, we have had to utilize the help of foster homes to house most of our animals in the past. We do not discriminate between fins, feathers, fur or even scales, and if we can help an animal on to a better life, we will! MPR tries hard to help any animal in need in some way, whether it be networking, transporting, needed vetting, fostering or even advice; however actual admissions are often limited due to space constraints. In 2016 the idea of Cat Tales Bookstore was born. It has been a wonderful resource for MPR. Cat Tales not only serves as a place the community can find excellent used books, but also as an adoption center for many of the cats we have available. With their key ingredients of daily handmade dough, freshly made pizza sauce and high quality cheese and toppings, they perfected the craft of the same quality pizza that customers enjoy today. After developing their pizza formula, they established their first Chicago’s Pizza in Beech Grove, Ind., in 1979. This location instantly became a staple in the town and high demand bolstered their growth into other successful locations. Bob and Ron realized that the secret wasn’t just in their pizza sauce, but also in the owners of their Chicago’s Pizza restaurants. Our Story It started with one of those homebrew kits... Abby thought it would be a fun gift, a hobby perhaps, that Craig could enjoy so he wasn't so focused on work (a common problem among chefs). Well, it turns out Craig was pretty good at brewing beer (won an award within a year), and, since he was already a chef, it just made sense for him to combine his two passions. After a late night discussion of what they wanted to do when they grew up (they're in their forties, by the way), Craig said, "All I want to do is cook barbeque and brew my beer." A few days later Abby (who is from Goshen, IN) recalled the conversation over the phone with a hometown friend who said, "You're not going to believe this, but a place just like that is up for sale in Warsaw, Indiana." A message to the previous owner led to a plane ride (Fall of 2019, pre-Covid-19 when you could still do that and not wear a hazmat suit), which led to a visit of the building, which led to a trip home, which led to a SERIOUS LIFE-CHANGING DISCUSSION, which led to a offer of purchase. A few months and a one pandemic later, Craig and Abby packed up all their belongings (and kids, couldn't forget them), sold their house in Massachusetts, and moved to Warsaw, Indiana to begin what is now called Ledgeview Brewing Company. People ask us all the time where the name comes from. Well, the house we owned in Massachusetts was on Ledgeview Drive. When Craig started making his homebrew in the garage, he called it the Ledgeview Garage Brewery. Then, when we knew this move was really going to happen, we seriously considered using that specific name. We even thought about knocking out the south wall of the restaurant and installing a glass garage door that would open out to the patio. Then we saw how much that would cost. So yeah, no "Garage." So here we are, making some serious barbeque and getting ready to brew some amazing beer. If you can, please take the time to come and check us out after we open. We, along with our friends and family, have worked really hard to get the restaurant and brewery ready. That way, when you and your friends come to visit, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy. Dr. Brian Topping received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Ball State University. He continued his education at Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis. Dr. Topping began practicing dentistry in 1998 and opened his own office in 2002, in Nappanee, Indiana. Dr. Topping believes in constantly improving his accreditation’s and education to maintain the highest level of care for his patients. Dr. Topping is a member of The Academy of General Dentistry, American Orthodontic Society, International Congress of Oral Implantology, Misch International Implant Institute, and the Nappanee Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Topping is also a strong believer in giving back to the community. He is on the Board of Directors for Faith Mission in Elkhart. Faith Mission is a homeless shelter, serving those underprivileged in Elkhart and the surrounding counties. He has also traveled to Mexico and Haiti on Dental Mission Trips. Dr. Topping is a member of the American Motorcycling Association and enjoys riding motorcycles with his son Grant. He is married to a “hometown” girl, Stephanie (Swihart) and they also have a daughter Arianna. Dr. Topping’s hobbies include rugby, hunting, fishing, water skiing, and any other outdoor activities. Dr. Swihart grew up in Wakarusa, Indiana and graduated from NorthWood High School. He went on to complete his Biology degree from Valparaiso University in 2006, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Swihart then received his doctorate from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2010. He has had specialized training in Invisalign and Implants and is member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Richards Restaurants was founded in 1967 by Don Strong of Bluffton, Indiana. But this wasn't Don's first venture into the restaurant business. Don's first success was a small, downtown diner in Bluffton, Indiana called the Snug. While operating the Snug he opened his second successful operation in Portland, Indiana. This new restaurant was called the "Embers" Restaurant, was considerably larger and included a commissary in the back room which provided homemade pies and salads for the restaurant. This was a family operation with Don's mother Gladys overseeing the home made bakery products and his wife, Mona Jean and other family members helping in the restaurant and the office. At about this same time, Don acquired a farm near Bryant Indiana. He had a dream of building not only a retreat for his family but also a place where the restaurant personnel and public could relax and enjoy themselves. He named the farm Bearcreek Farms. As the Embers prospered Don set his sights on a chain of family restaurants. The first Richards Restaurant opened in 1967. Over the next 40 years the Company has grown and changed until today there are 14 Company owned Richards Restaurants throughout Northeastern Indiana, one franchised Richards Restaurant, the Bearcreek Farms Country Resort plus separate Commissary and a Bakery facilities. The Commissary and Bakery provide Richards Restaurants with quality products delivered to the stores twice a week. Richards' products are distinctive because we use our own recipes and only top grade ingredients. Richards' products are among the best quality in our segment of the industry. Richards has achieved success because of the people in the organization, people who have worked hard and cared about our guests. As a result these guests come back to visit us over and over. Some customers started coming to Richards when they were children and now bring in their children. Other customers eat two to three meals a day at our restaurants. Over the years Richards has built new restaurants, renovated existing restaurants and redesigned interior layouts several times, but the basic Company philosophy has remained the same - provide Good Food at Reasonable Prices and do it quickly in a Friendly Atmosphere.
